Festive rice crispy treats are the ultimate pantry staple sweet treat to whip up in the snap! They’re delicious, simple and cute enough to bring to family get-togethers this holiday season.
Rice crispy treats are my favorite go-to sweet treat because they take no time at all to make. They’re especially loved around here because everyone in our house can enjoy them. I always tell my husband that I make them with extra love for him. *insert kissy face emoji here*
This recipe is probably my favorite because it takes almost zero thought behind it and you basically don’t have to measure anything. You just throw it all in a pot and call it delicious.

Tools You’ll Need
- dutch oven or large pot
- wooden spoon
- 9×13 baking dish
- 1/2 measuring cup
Ingredients

- 1 stick of butter
- 10 oz bag of mini marshmallows
- 1 12oz box of rice crispy cereal
- 1/2 cup (or so) holiday mini baking chips
Directions

In a dutch oven, melt a stick of butter on medium heat.

Once the butter is completely melted, add in the entire bag of mini marshmallows.
You don’t have to use mini marshmallows, you can absolutely use regular sized marshmallows, but I find the minis melt a lot faster and more evenly. I also always have the minis in my pantry.

After the butter and mini marshmallows are completely liquified, remove from heat. Add the rice crispy cereal to the pot and stir.
I typically try to leave the powdery cereal out of it, but if it doesn’t bother you, go for it.
If you get a larger box of cereal, I believe the measured amount of rice crispy cereal would be about 10 cups.

Once you’ve stirred in the cereal until its gooey and you want to just eat it with a spoon out of the pot, add in the baking chips.
Since the rice crispy treat mixture is still hot, these will melt a little bit.

Butter a baking dish, then add in the rice crispy treats to the dish. I typically sprinkle a little extra baking chips on top just because they’re cute and festive.
Cool until set, about 20 minutes. I typically can’t wait too long, so I feel 20 minutes is generous enough. Haha!
Serve with love!
These are so fun to make with kiddos too! No measuring tools, just dump and go. My kiddos always love licking the spoon.
