I’ve been trying to make as many things from scratch using whole ingredients at home as I can. Making brown sugar has been the easiest things to make. Making organic brown sugar from scratch in your own kitchen can be done in as little as 5 minutes!
You only need a couple of things to make it, and these 2 ingredients are wonderful pantry staples.

I personally like being an “ingredient” household, because most of the time, if I need more of something, I can whip it up quickly! Homemade brown sugar is a great example of that.
Equipment
- Mixer
- Glass storage container (I like to use Half Gallon Mason Jars)
- Rubber spatula
- Canning funnel
- Measuring cups
Ingredients
- 6 c. Organic Cane Sugar
- 1/4 c. – 1/2 c. Molasses
Directions

In your mixer fitted with a whisk attatchment, add organic sugar.
Depending on the size of your container you can use more or less sugar. I personally store my brown sugar in a half gallon mason jar, so I can do about 6 + cups of sugar.
Then add molasses.
This is pretty flexible depending on how dark you like your brown sugar. I personally like mine to be on the darker side. I add approximately 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of molasses for my 6+ cup amount.
A great tip would be to start off with less than you think and add more if needed.
Blend your sugar and molasses together until its completely combined. You’ll probably need to use a rubber spatula to scrape the sides and the bottom of the bowl to make sure everything is incorporated equally.

That’s it! Just store in a glass container with a lid.
